“Mommy, is the world coming to an end?”

“Of course not…not for a long, long, long time.  You have nothing to worry about.”

“I don’t?”

“No.”

“But what about the COVID?  And Uncle T is not working anymore.  And Auntie S can’t come for Christmas.  And what about my mask?  And what about Santa?  Will he have to wear a mask, too?  Is Christmas canceled?  And-“

“Child, keep still.”

“But-“

“Keep still and listen to me:  a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.  The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him; a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, and his delight shall be the fear of the Lord.”

“But, mommy-“

“Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted.  He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.”

“Mommy, I-“

“There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the Lord, as water covers the sea.”

“But, mommy-“

“Do you understand, child?”

“No.  What does all that mean?”

“It means that Jesus is in charge.”

“Jesus is in charge?”

“Yes.”

“of the COVID?”

“Yes.”

“of Auntie S and Uncle T?”

“Yes.”

“of Christmas?”

“Yes.”

“Of Santa?”

“Yes.”

“Well, does Jesus have to wear a mask, too?”

“Silly child, go to sleep!  Tomorrow is another day.”
